We love the Mexican Riviera and we were so happy to see every traveler of every age felt the same on this trip. Multigenerational travel is so important and we love seeing families make new memories and enjoy being with each other.
We even saw families come together for special occasions! We got to celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary plus two birthdays. We also owe one birthday boy/new teenager so many thanks for keeping us up to date with March Madness scores!
Mexico is one of our favorite spots for many reasons but we love how there are so many options for every traveler. We had some more adventurous members of or group go on a camel excursion in Cabo which was so much fun.
We also loved all the shopping! It was so fun getting to see artists making paintings on the spot or haggling for souvenirs to bring home for all our family and friends not lucky enough to join us on this incredible trip.
But each year everyone’s favorite excursion is always tequila tasting. And in Mexico you’re never far from a good drink, whether it’s a quality sipping tequila or a fantastic margarita. We know all caregivers can use a cocktail or two so we also enjoyed a wine tasting with charcuterie on this trip plus a group trip to the hydrotherapy spa pool. We’re all about fun and relaxation and making sure everyone gets the vacation they deserve!
We also had some great caregiver workshops with our speaker Joe Brazeal and especially loved him talking about self-care for the caregiver. Caregivers often don’t pay enough attention to themselves and we try to make sure that happens on every trip though things like daily caregiver break time, accompanied excursions so they have an extra hand, and now caregiver breakfasts where our staff spends time with their loved ones and caregivers can have time with each other to just relax and spend time with their new group of friends.

Join us on a voyage to the beautiful Mexican Riviera! This fully accessible, dementia-friendly cruise and caregiver retreat invites caregivers and their loved ones to join us on a 7 day floating fiesta south from San Diego to the Sea of Cortez. All travelers can experience the magic of Mexico by watching for whales right from the ship, seeing the famous El Arco arch in Cabo San Lucas, and strolling the white sand beaches of Mazatlán.
Where We’re Taking You
Day 1: After departing from our San Diego group hotel or being escorted from the airport by an Elite staff member you’ll get settled into your cabin before waving goodbye to California and heading south to explore the absolutely stunning Mexican Riviera..
Day 2: This day at sea is devoted to neuroplasticity focused activities and caregiver workshops, circles, and break time. Workshops feature a rotation of guest speakers who are here to pass on their knowledge and experience so caregivers leave this trip not only refreshed but also better equipped to handle every day life.
Day 3: Watch for whales as we head towards Cabo San Lucas where we’ll spend the afternoon. Have your cameras ready for a glimpse of the famous El Arco arched rock formation or do as the tourists do and taste some tequila in town!
Day 4: Mazatlan has something for every traveler! Here you can enjoy a seaside stroll, check out local art and architecture, watch the death defying cliff divers, or indulge in the tastiest Mexican cuisine around.
Day 5: We have a full day in Puerto Vallarta and we’ll need every minute of it because there is so much to see and do here! Take a stroll back in time as you walk past old world buildings and cathedrals. Enjoy the Malecon boardwalk which is the perfect place to shop for souvenirs, listen to live music, or enjoy a tropical cocktail. Or spend a beach day at one of the many white sand beaches nearby. This is our last port before San Diego and we’ll make the most of it!
Day 6-7: These days at sea will feature more caregiver workshops with our rotation of guest speakers and will also give us a chance to enjoy the ship amenities. Take a soak in the spa’s hydrotherapy pool or treat yourself to a wine tasting because this is our last chance to enjoy our luxury cruise ship before docking back in San Diego.

We offer the following on every Elite Cruise so you and your loved ones can enjoy life to the fullest:
- Group accompanied by medical professionals, including RN support 24/7, as well as trained support staff. Staff to client ratio is 1:4.
- Meet and greet at airport

- Exclusive group events such as music therapy, interactive educational and support seminars for caregivers, and Memory Café sessions that ensure all caregivers have time to themselves each day.
Clients with neurological diagnoses, post CVA, slow walkers, diabetes, heart disease, and families that feel more comfortable with RN clinical support are appropriate to travel with us.
Wheelchair accessible and mobility accessible staterooms are available on a first come first serve basis. All cabins on the ship can be retrofitted to be accessible with elevated toilet seats, shower chairs, and detachable shower heads at no additional cost. Arrangements can be made to rent assistive devices such as scooters, power wheelchairs, etc.

Caregiver Conferences & Support
Connect with other caregivers on our cruises and find the support you need with caregiver circles and educational seminars on caregiving managing, self care, diagnosis/prognosis, and neuroplasticity concepts and activities. These sessions are exclusively for our group and feature new guest speakers on each voyage as well as our team of professionals including Kathy, a geriatric neurology nurse with adaptive technology certification. Additionally get the time to regroup, relax, and recharge with daily two hour respite sessions where our team will take over your caregiving duties and you have the break you deserve.
NEW FOR CAREGIVERS: We now feature caregiver breakfasts! Join other caregivers for a breakfast with your new friends while the Elite staff takes over and makes sure your loved ones enjoy their favorite morning foods. You deserve a relaxing start to your day and a chance to enjoy breakfast at your own pace!
M.S. Koningsdam offers vacation experiences for all ages!
Create lifelong memories with all generations of your family on this impressive vessel. Younger family members will enjoy dedicated activities and entertainment at Club HAL while adults unwind at Greenhouse Spa or keep things lively at B.B. King’s Blues Club. All generations can come together for some fun at the spacious Sea View Pool or at one of the many music venues on board.
